Single Fathers of America
Support for single fathers is far and few in between. Children need their fathers as much as their mothers for healthy development. In the event of divorce or separation, child custody is the most important, complicated, and expensive issue single fathers face. If not handled properly, the father’s emotional, psychological, mental, and financial toll is catastrophic. The emotional toll can lead to feelings of hopelessness, anger, and depression. More often than not, the economic toll can cause unfavorable outcomes where fathers end up seeing their children a few hours a month.
Children need consistently present fathers, not biweekly visitors.
We aim to provide mentoring and legal support for single fathers faced with child custody court. When fathers have adequate guidance and support, the legal process is smoother for everyone. It takes less toll on the fathers, the children, and the mothers. The consistent presence of fathers in children’s lives provides healthy and balanced emotional and physical health for both fathers and their children.
Child custody is a major life-altering event that can be highly stressful and, in many cases, can have devastating effects on everyone involved. Regrettably, the resulting pressure, frustration, and anger may lead to violence. Either towards the self i.e., suicide or towards the co-parent. Studies have shown that suicide rates among men and women declined in states with joint-custody laws with male suicide rates dropping by about 9% in the long term.
Our organization’s primary mission is to reduce the male suicide mortality rate drastically. By offering resources and alleviating pressure during the most stressful events in men’s lives, we can dramatically improve our men’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
